ASLL / aerostatic air bearing
Project target:
01.04.2018 – 30.09.2020
Project partner:
- Lehrstuhl für Strömungs- u. Arbeitsmaschinen (SAM) der TU Kaiserslautern (TUK)
Development of an aerostatic air bearing system using fiber-reinforced ceramic for application in a turbomachinery.
The fiber-reinforced ceramic material (CMC – Ceramic Matrix Composite) was developed by the DLR-institute in Stuttgart/Germany. For this project the CMC material will be provided by DLR with different dimensions and porosities.
Following advantages over conventional bearing systems are expected:
- oil-free- and lubrication-free bearing system
- capability for high rotation speed (w/ sufficient damping behaviors)
- low frictional power level
- robust and maintenance-free
- low sound pressure level
